I've been a working actor for almost 13 years. How many times do you think I've been asked to perform a monologue in an audition?

 ZERO TIMES.👀👀

That's right. Not once have I ever been asked to perform a monologue outside of a classroom setting.

In my opinion, most actors (especially newer actors) spend way too much time working on monologues when they are almost never used in the industry.

While I do think monologues have their place, I think they are used way to often and too early as a tool to teach basic acting skills

New actors need to learn that acting is NOT an individual activity. Acting is collaborative. Monologues do a poor job of teaching that.
